I love looking at old portraits like these...before candid shots could really be taken and you just had to sit and look at the camera. As much as I love candid shots because you can really see someone's personality (unlike all of these where everyone looks soul-less), I just LOVE how simple they are. Nothing special, just looking into the camera.
You could really just sit there and stare forever trying to guess what these people may have been like.
I know a lot of people still do family shots together and posed all of the time, but then you have matching shirts (eh) or fake forest backgrounds (double eh). Anyway, I've been drawing a lot of inspiration from these lately.
